Believe it or not those who first came up with the idea of plastic surgery wanted it used for good. In fact it was originally (and still is) for burn victims and since it’s conception it’s become more well known for it’s “enhancing” techniques.

I want to write this post because I saw some video of a person who has (in my opinion) NOT benefited from plastic surgery. But it’s like she can’t stop….and unfortunately she is the rule rather than the exception, especially in Hollywood.

Walter Yeo is widely known as the first person to benefit from reconstructive surgery. He was in the British Navy and sustained terrible but not fatal injuries. The surgery was done in 1917 and is VERY hard to look at, so you’ve been warned.

Again, reconstructive surgery is “performed to correct functional impairments caused by burns; traumatic injuries, such as facial bone fractures; congenital abnormalities; developmental abnormalities; infection and disease” etc etc but towards the end of the 20th Century it became mostly about “Cosmetic” surgery.

When Facebook was the new Myspace, I was proud to stop using my myspace page and be pretty much solely a facebook user. But that’s when I was in college and/or just out. Now, its not a young kids obsession anymore, it’s an EVERYBODY obsession. My dad is on facebook. It’s a little scary, but then again it makes me think twice about what I post. But my point is, now I don’t have to be proud that I only use one social networking site, because it’s not exclusive to immature high school/college kids anymore. Now it’s a way of life for people who are familiar with that think called the computer.

I just watched a talk at TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) conference about Twitter. NOW, I first learned about twitter from my ex who is high up in a nerdy television network. Of course a guy high up in a nerdy television network would be obsessed with the newest technologies, right? He bought his managers Rock Band before it was released, he was THIS close to buying me an iphone just so I could text him a novel when we weren’t together, he’s a nerd and he loves it. So it was about mid summer when I noticed these strange status updates on his facebook page. Then I noticed the same kind of update on my buddy Kevin Pereira (host of Attack of the Show on G4)’s facebook status. The common thread? It said “twitter”. It has been almost a year an I didn’t succumb to Twitter. But I have to say, I have (my ex is going to love this) EPICLY FAILED.

Evan Williams, the co-founder of Blogger.com and Twitter spoke at the TED conference and I’m sold. I mean, look, I won’t “tweet” when I’m taking a shower or making dinner. But, you know, if I’m hoping on a plane and I have more than one person who I’ll be seeing once I arrive, it would be nice not to have to send 18 text messages. Even my boyfriend, who detests the idea of Facebook, watches peoples “tweets”.

Ok fine, so I’m not TOTALLY sold, as I do not have a blackberry or any other way to update remotely. But I’ll give it a shot. I’m not an old lady, yet. I have to keep up with the kids, don’t I?

p.s. It turns out my co-blogger Koop also tweets. I just found that out. Way to go Jess…

In reference to my previous half joke post, it is extremely important to buy American goods to help stimulate our economy. That being said, there are so many wonderful Ma & Pa type companies that need and deserve our help.

One of my favorites is “Salad Girl” salad dressings.  This is a family in Minnesota that makes and sells these amazing salad dressings that are not only good for you but packaged in sustainable containers.

On top of the salad dressings they sell packaged nuts to add to your salad and make it more hearty, so it can be a meal rather than just an side. They go with the dressings so they make for an amazing meal for someone who may be kitchen challenged. It’s all built in!

Now they only sell in Minnesota but I’m sure if the national response is great enough they can work something out 🙂 This one is my personal fave!

Another personal favorite brand of locally produced foods in Newmans Own. Yup, Paul Newman’s Own.  They are known for popcorn and pasta sauce and salad dressings, but they also have lemonade, salsa and cereal. What’s great about Newman’s Own is that now they have an organic line, as if what they already make isn’t good enough for you!  This line has organic chocolate, coffee and my boyfriends favorite pretzels.

chocoNewman’s Own is located in Connecticut but sell nationally. You can find their products at Whole foods, Target, Rainbow, Cub, Vons and almost every large grocery chain. – Jessi

If you live in or happen to be around Southern Illinois then you should check out their fabulous wineries.  Granted IL is not where most think to find local wineries but near Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL there are several and are all part of a wine trail.  My person favorite is Von Jacob Winery.  Not only do they have fantastic apple wines but they also have a great outdoor area where  you can sit and enjoy your wine.  Plus if you call Von Jacob they will ship you a case of wine for around $20 shipping.  I like sweeter wines and my favorites are Country Red and Jonathan Apple wines.  -Koop

This new product is going to be a MAJOR HIT! You know when you go to a dinner party and bring a bottle of wine? You know how you just keep it in the brown paper bag that it came in from the Liquor store?

Now you can personalize!

This is a cute and inexpensive way to dazzle your friends!

After Perez Hilton, MSNBC and this morning I saw it on CNN, it looks like Facebook realized that they cannot pull the wool over  millions of users like the tried to do.

I logged on, after much back and forth about where I stand ethically with Facebook, and a notice popped up at the top of my home page. It directed me to the page shown above.  Please read what is outlined in Mark Zuckerberg’s blog called “Update on Terms”

__________________

A couple of weeks ago, we revised our terms of use hoping to clarify some parts for our users. Over the past couple of days, we received a lot of questions and comments about the changes and what they mean for people and their information. Based on this feedback, we have decided to return to our previous terms of use while we resolve the issues that people have raised…..Going forward, we’ve decided to take a new approach towards developing our terms. We concluded that returning to our previous terms was the right thing for now. As I said yesterday, we think that a lot of the language in our terms is overly formal and protective so we don’t plan to leave it there for long……You have my commitment that we’ll do all of these things, but in order to do them right it will take a little bit of time. We expect to complete this in the next few weeks. In the meantime, we’ve changed the terms back to what existed before the February 4th change, which was what most people asked us for and was the recommendation of the outside experts we consulted.

Yesterday I received an email that made me speechless. Funny speechless. When you think about it, even though this is joke, most of it is true!

If you want to do your part as an American to help the American economy, please read below and do as it says. BUY AMERICAN-SPEND MONEY ON AMERICAN GOODS IN AMERICAN STORES.  (haha)

At some time this year, taxpayers will receive an Economic Stimulus Payment.
This is a very
exciting new program that I will explain using the Q and A format:

Q. What is an Economic Stimulus Payment?
A. It is money that the Federal government will send to taxpayers.

Q. Where will the government get this money?
A. From taxpayers.

Q. So the government is giving me back my own money?
A. No, they are borrowing it from China.  Your children are expected to repay the Chinese.

Q. What is the purpose of this payment?
A. The plan is that you will use the money to purchase a high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy.

Q. But isn’t that stimulating the economy of China?
A.  Shut up.”

Below is some helpful advice on how to best help the U.S. economy by spending your stimulus check wisely:

If you spend that money at Wal-Mart, all the money will go to China.

If you spend it on gasoline it will go to Hugo Chavez, the Arabs and Al Queda.

If you purchase a computer it will go to Taiwan.

If you purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala (unless you buy organic).

If you buy a car it will go to Japan and Korea.

If you purchase prescription drugs it will go to India.

If you purchase heroin it will go to the Taliban in Afghanistan.

If you give it to a charitable cause, it will go to Nigeria.

And none of it will help the American economy.

We need to keep that money here in America. You can keep the money in America by spending it at yard sales, going to a baseball game, or spend it on prostitutes, beer (domestic ONLY), or tattoos, since those are the only businesses still in the U.S.

The Elevaters –>

http://www.elevatersmusic.com/

When I lived in LA, I would try not to miss one of their shows. These guys have an energy that is not often seen in musical acts today. They are so organic, the music is soulful and they are magnetic; live or otherwise. I can safely say that going to see an Elevater show was something I looked forward to and miss dearly.

If you can’t get to them live, buy thier album. With either one, you’ll have a spiritual experience.

Peace,

Jessi

Yeah, I said it. As far as I’m concerned, the people who work for Google are Aliens; and I love them!

But to be serious for a moment, the new upgrade for your mobile devices can be seen as evil (to philandering cheaters) or pure genius (to their wives). Google Tracker can be installed on most phones with Internet capabilities and when that is done others with Google tracker can SEE WHERE YOU ARE!

tracker1

Now don’t think that Google didn’t think about your privacy…. they added this feature in which you can hide yourself.

hidegoogle

So, just think of it as Gchat or AIM or Facebook. If you want to be seen and found you will be. And if you want to be totally accessible you can be. And if you want to seem off-your-rocker desperate for attention…you will, I assure you.

Google track is now available on most phones with Internet capabilities with the exception of the iphone (so I’ve heard).

GROUNDHOG DAY

Well isn’t it just dandy….Punxsutawney Phil, complete with his built in fur coat, predicts that we’ll have a longer winter. GREAT!

Phil was woken from his slumber today, February 2nd 2009, and proclaimed in a language that not many can understand “6 more weeks of winter!”

HA yeah, maybe 6 more weeks of winter in North Carolina, but not Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa or the Dakotas! Alright, alright, we choose to live here, we shouldn’t complain, but it’s going to be winter for a lot longer than that!

For more information on Punxsutawney Phil and his mustached handlers, go to http://groundhog.org/

Stay warm!
