img_0048Last weekend while I was visiting Vancouver in the lovely Canada I had the opportunity to catch one of the city’s Cultural events which are leading up to the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.  At the Orpheum theater which is gorgeous and huge my BFF and I caught the always intriguing and wonderful Tegan and Sara with Broken Social Scene wrapping up the evenings festivities.

Playing their last show for their fifth studio album The Con Tegan and Sara Quin played the same set I saw in Los Angeles but in an abbreviated form.  I always enjoy seeing them but do not enjoy it as much when the sisters are trapped into a time frame.  Usually this means they have to rush a bit and do not have time to breathe and allow their normal fun banter to naturally occur.  Though there were some funny moments like when Tegan’s shirt poppped open and all the women in the crowd started screaming take it off.  To which Sara responded I think you bought tickets to the wrong event.  You need to be seeing strippers.  Or when a girl in the audience proposed marriage to Sara and Tegan made fun of her for writing the proposal on wrapping paper and well for the girl being jail bait.

**** Side Note:  Tegan and Sara are heading into the studio to record their 6th album soon and are expecting a September 2009 release.  Plus they are self publishing 3 photography/short stories/poetry coffee table books with each featuring a different photography (Ryan Russell, Lyndsey Byrnes and another) sometime hopefully this spring.

Broken Social Scene I had heard some of their music but never had seen them live nor really knew what I was in for but they were great.  My BFF was not into them as much as I was but endured most of the set for me.  Just another reason why she holds the BFF title.  I digress.  The group is made up of a collection of  musicians who also paly in other groups.  Usually there’s around 8 of them on the stage at a time but there are, I believe, 17 revolving members.  Their sound is unique and you cannot help but head bob along with the songs.  The crowd was really into them and overtook the aisle to hop around to certain songs.  I’ve posted one below but have no clue as to the song’s title.  Enjoy!  To find out more on them check here and here.  It’s different but very much worth checking out.  If for nothing else the talent involved, Fiest is a member, and the intrique usage of different instruments to make new sounds.  Love it.

vancouver_cityscapeIn just two weeks I am off to visit the wonderful land of Vancouver, B.C Canada.  My BFF is going with me and we’re going to celebrate our 29th birthdays.  Yeah, old ladies on the move!  We’re both beyond excited to be going to Canada.

Here’s where I need your help.  We are looking for suggestions of places to see, places to eat, shop, go out.  Or any you have to see this type places!  I’m also looking for anything you wouldn’t find in the average tour book!  We are going to the Tegan and Sara and Broken Social Scene concert  there too.  Of course, I’m excited about that.

Please suggest away!  Thank you!
