Posts Tagged ‘Obama’

Now that the inaug ( I like to abreve…) is over and you have an Obama hangover I have the best way to nurse you back to health! Also, if you’re just plain sick from it being winter or traveling (like moi), the best thing to do it watch what you put in your body.  There was a time in my life when I would make my own smoothies and a time ever father back when I would make my own juice.

My life now, is not so uprooted anymore. I don’t rent a room and use my roommates dishware anymore, so I feel more comfortable with actually using my kitchen.

I must admit though, I wasn’t inspired by making my own juice again until I was in Israel a couple weeks ago. Near the open air market there are bakeries and corner stores a plenty, AND one more amazing place- a juice shop. You walk in and ask for one or more of just a few kinds of juice Pomegranate, Orange, Carrot, Apple, Blueberry to name a few.

Now, I should’ve asked for a combo of Carrot and Pom, but I only asked for carrot and DAMN was it only carrot.  For most of us, it’s not sweet enough, just carrot juice in the raw, so I’ll zero in on how to best make Pomegranate and Orange juice.

You can buy the most low tech juicer out there.

Or go for a slightly higher tech version

I swear, they both work even for Pomegranate! But make sure the put an old rag under it, because it will inevitably splash and pom juice is muchas hard to get out of clothing.

In closing, I want to say that this only takes a few minutes to do and there are so many reasons why it’s a great idea:

  • You get natural vitamins
  • You get natural sugars (which are GOOD for you)
  • You get a natural energy
  • Fruits and vegetables give you amazing strength for the day and fiber (which isn’t only for if you HAVE to poo, it’s great for overall intestinal health)
  • You save the earth a little more each day but opting out of buying juice in that plastic bottle
  • YOU SAVE MONEY! Think about it, at almost $4 a bottle for the healthy juice, let’s just say you get one a day for each work day, that’s $20, roughly. If you go and get a couple pieces of each fruit on Sunday at the market that will probably only cost you $15. Add that up and you’re saving $20 a month! I can get a manicure for that….

TIP: When they’re in season, try making Blood Orange juice. It’s got a really nice, different flavor and it’s fun to make because it doesn’t look like regular orange juice!

Go and be healthy!

“If Nostradamus were alive today, he’d have a hard time keeping up with Gerald Celente.”
— New York Post

Gerald Celente is a genius who cannot be brushed off as a hack. He is the CEO of Trends Research Institute, a company that prides itself on being watchful and thoughtful about how what we’re doing today will effect our tomorrow. If you look at their website, it looks like a college kids did it, but there is no denying how on target the Trend Research Institute has been.

First let’s talk about his past predictions so you can see for yourself his track record.

_______________________________________________________________________

Let’s talk about his current predictions- most of them are pretty scary.

  1. Conservation Engineers– More powerful than high tech and paying much better than the booming health care sector, we forecast that “Conservation Engineers” and “Conservation Specialists” that are skilled in providing enviro-smart solutions will be among the most handsomely rewarded and sought after professions for the next several decades…..
  2. Tax RevoltsTax Revolts It was a reason given for starting the first American Revolution and as the trends add up, it will also be a reason for starting the second. Fed up, and not willing – or able – to take it anymore, overtaxed Americans will begin the battle against politicians and bureaucrats in the fight to lower and/or repeal taxes… while demanding higher tax rates for those seen as paying too little….
  3. Bye Bye Bucks-America’s going broke and the whole world knows it. Betting that its economy will spiral down and that the dollar will fall with it, foreign creditors are dumping dollars on the market … and even Third World street vendors don’t want to take greenbacks any longer. The further it falls, the less it’s worth. The less it’s worth, the less it buys. In the real world they call it “inflation.” In America they call it “good for business.” ……
  4. Small is Big-Unlike the years of personal prosperity and business growth long perceived a birthright … today, as America’s fortunes dwindle, its people will be forced to adjust attitudes and alter practices to compensate for the losses. Although the oncoming national downsizing trend may be a blow to egos and painful to pocketbooks, if intelligently deployed and spiritually practiced, the “Small is Big” trend can lead to more progressive advancement and greater rewards than the supersizing trend that has been consuming much of the nation…..
  5. Heal yourself Health careJust as it took mountains of facts and bottom line realities to finally convince a consumption prone public that energy saving tools and environmentally sound practices bring bigger rewards and higher quality, the oncoming “Heal Yourself Health Care” trend will be as widely embraced and will prove equally rewarding.

Evolving over the past two decades, along with growing acceptance of seeking alternative medical options, the “Heal Yourself Health Care” trend is being driven by both the lack of money and the power of the mind…..

  6. Technoslaves.comIt’s a quickly spreading worldwide epidemic that will get much worse. All colors, classes, creeds and races are addicted and they can’t break the habit. Before 2008 ends, the TechnoSlave trend will be so pervasive and so deeply embedded into the fabric of society that Old World communication styles will be seen as quaint and ridiculed as stupidly boring by the high-tech “hip.” Across borders and around the world, blinking lights of blue and red flash from human ears … electro-plastic appendages affixed to the body and controlling the mind. So self-important have society’s members become that they must be connected at all times … to be in touch and instant messaged … for work, play and to fill the voids of idle time…..

**All of these predictions came from http://www.trendsresearch.com/journal08.html

It’s great that we the people saw that the jig was up and elected a non-corrupt man into the office, but it saddens me to think that no matter what he does in office, our lives will be forever changed because of one man’s infinite power for 8 years and there’s nothing Obama can do about it. I, for one, do not doubt these predictions. I do not doubt that this new generation of kids will grow up understanding that food is more important that a toy truck. I do not doubt that we will go broke. We will soon understand the plight of Argentinians and Mexicans after the Tequila Crisis of ’94 and even our grandparents who lived during the great depression.

Here is a video on FOX Business- now if they have Gerald Celente on the show, they must think their whole demo is going bankrupt very very soon.

To all our readers, I never intended for our blog to be about gay rights. But the issue is important to me and I feel I have to get the word out.

On Tuesday night I could not have been prouder than to elect an African American President.  For the first time in a very long time I felt proud to be an American.  Our nation had looked beyond color and at a person we felt, as a nation, could lead us into a prosperous future. Twenty minutes later I wanted to cry.  Proposition 8 was gaining and in the end it looks like it will pass.  The California Constitution will now read that people of the same sex cannot be married and cannot observe the same rights as heterosexual couples.

As I spent the next day at work, I am producing a TV show on genealogy, looking through historic photos of slaves and the civil war I started to cry.  It hit me that it took hundreds of years for our nation to move past this racism and segregation.  How long is it going to take our nation to accept the LGBT community?  When will we look past a person’s sexuality and at the person?  Any person who is gay is not less than a person.  One homosexual person does not count as 1/16th of a person in the census.  According to our national Constitution they are created equal so why does that not apply in every sense of the word?

It makes me extremely angry when people look down on others because they are different or not like them or not the norm.  But each of you who will not even try to understand homosexuality I ask you this:  All of you has at least one person in your life who is gay.  Whether it be a friend, relative, co-worker you more than likely do.  The next time you see that person, that gay person who do care about, look them in the eye and say:  “You are not equal to me.  You are less than me and do not deserve the same rights that I enjoy.”  This is exactly what you are saying each and every day when you vote Yes on legislation like Proposition 8 or make a homophobic slurs.  Remember that person’s face when you do these things because you are directly hurting that  person you care about.

Today there will be a rally at the Mormon Church in West LA at 2pm.  The No on Prop 8 supporters are going to ask the group who opposed them the most why?  They would like to hear their opinions face to face.  Personally I cannot attend due to my work.  But if you are in LA and can make it please go.  This is a peaceful event much like the rallies held around the state last night.  Remember “Equality for all,” its the basis on which our country was formed.

“It’s the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled – Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been a collection of Red States and Blue States: we are, and always will be, the United States of America.” – President Elect Obama

I would also like to thank all those who volunteered to help spread the word on No on Prop 8 and all the continued supporters who are trying to keep the movement alive.

I couldn’t put it better than Jessi has already stated so I’m not going to try.  Personally I voted weeks ago, thank you absentee voting.  California is one, I believe of 5, states which allows propositions on the national campaign.  And trust me, you have to do your research to understand these propositions.  Today, I know, will be one for the history books.  The entire world is waiting for us, the World’s leader, to make a much needed change.  Even McCain would be better than our current President.  Overall McCain isn’t a bad person for the job; yes, I said it and I voted for Obama.  All I ask is before you vote choose the person who you think will lead this country into the future.  Who will help us solve our economic problems and not just for the now but for 10, 20, 30 years from now.  Thinking ahead, in the long term, is not one of America’s strong points but I know this can change.

Also, if in CA, please consider Voting No on Proposition 8.  There is a reason we have separation of church and state.  Posted below is a link to a LA Times article published today which debunks the horrid Yes on 8 ads.  Please read it and think: are you really against gay marriage or are you simply against being gay?  In the case of Prop 8 there is a difference.
